Oct. 25 Horatio Alger Scholarships To be eligible to apply for the Horatio Alger Louisiana Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be enrolled full time as a high school senior in Louisiana; be progressing normally toward graduation in spring/summer of 2015 with plans to enter a college in the United States no later than the fall following graduation
  • Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor’s degree at an accredited non-profit public or private institution in Louisiana. (students may start their studies at a two-year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution)
  • Demonstrate critical financial need ($55,000 or lower adjusted gross family income is required)
  • Be involved in co-curricular and community service activities
  • Display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity
  • Maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0
  • Be a resident of Louisiana; and
  • Be a United States citizen
Nov. 3 The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation provides a number of scholarships to high achieving low-income students one of them being the College Scholarship for high school seniors.
The College Scholarship Program application period closes November 3, 2015.
If selected, the scholarship will include up to $40,000 per year to attend a four-year accredited undergraduate school

Mar. 1 Glenn Armentor “Pay It Forward” Scholarship

  • $10,000 scholarship for incoming UL-Lafayette freshmen
  • Must have ACT Composite of 19, ACT English 18, and ACT Math 19 and 2.5 GPA
Mar. 12 USGA & Chevron STEM Scholarship** Time Sensitive – Only first 500 applications will be accepted **

  • $5,000 to $10,000 awards
  • Must plan to attend a 4-year university and study a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) discipline.

Mar. 14 Carol Meyer Memorial Scholarship

  • $500 for students interested in studying mathematics, math education, etc.

Mar. 31 Louisiana Life Safety & Security Association Youth Scholarship

  • Louisiana’s scholarship program awards $1,000 to the first place winner and $500 to the second place winner.  These winners are then entered into the national award worth up to $10,000.

May 8 SLEMCO Scholarship

  • Twenty $2,000 scholarships are chosen by a random drawing.
  • Forms will be available in February which must be submitted to the Lafayette SLEMCO office by May 8.
  • Must be a SLEMCO member to apply.  Member must be present at June meeting to receive scholarship.
May 15 NSU Louisiana High School Essay Contest

  • 1st Place: $150; 2nd Place: $100; and 3rd Place: $50
  • Essay contest winners receive a $200/semester NSU scholarship ($1600 over four years)
  • Must submit a complete scholarship packet to NSU by December 1. Winners must also have 20 ACT score (or 950 SAT) and 2.0 GPA to be eligible.

  • For students involved in athletics.  Several are available.  Applications will be made available in March each year.
